I was born in Ames, Iowa as the youngest of a big Italian family. When I was just a baby, my family was uprooted after a tornado destroyed the family skating rink. In picking up the pieces, my parents moved us to West Des Moines, Iowa and built a new skating rink, Skate West, where I spent my entire childhood... mostly on wheels.  The local skating rink was much more than a business to the Muse family, as my parents, John and Ramona, built the new rink, with a connected home so they could be with their six children, even while they were at work. This meant that I, being the youngest, literally grew up in a skating rink. Skate life began for me, like it did for my older siblings, as a figure skater. But along with my close in age and highly competitive brother, Dante, I found early on that my calling was going fast. In 1982 at the age of 14, I won my first United States National speed skating Championship in the Freshman Division. A short three years later, in 1985, I won my first World Speed Skating Gold medal (along with another Gold and Bronze). At only seventeen years old and a senior at Dowling High School at the time of my first World Championship, I became and still remain the youngest male world champion in speed skating history. In my speed skating career at the World Championship, I  won 19 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals, and 8 Bronze medals. Upon retirement, this was the largest gold medal count of any male athlete in the history of speed skating. My last world gold medal came in 1995 although I continued winning several more World Cups and National Championships as a professional racer.  I also represented the United States in three Pan American Games; 1987, 1991, and 1995 winning 7 gold medals and another handful of Silver and Bronze medals and two World Games; 1989 and 1993 winning 4 gold medals and a handful of other medals. Through my career, I also amassed many National Championships and other podiums. My brothers Dante (competitor) and Mark (coach) and I, helped create a legacy for Team USA which lead to years of international dominance. We all three have been Inducted into the Roller Sports Hall of Fame 

In 2010, I "un retired" to join my brother, Dante, as a roller derby player where I again found success winning 4 more World Championships as a player/captain of Team USA.

I have continued my passion for sports by racing bicycles and skates for fun as well as coaching athletes throughout the world as an international speed skating coach and coaching club hockey, club soccer, and high school football. 

I still call West Des Moines, Iowa my home, where my wife, Cassandra, and I raised our five children, Gabrielle, Rachel, Antony, Ella, and Sofia.

I can be found most days around the city helping people buy and sell homes as a Broker/Realtor in Iowa.

I have been blessed beyond anything I could have earned or even imagined so it would be difficult to write a "how to" about any of my accomplishments. Instead, I feel like God gave me this adventure so that one day I would be able to share my stories about this ordinary kid with a dream and a seed of faith. These are my "Musings" and the life lessons learned along the way.
